Online Orientation to Kingian Nonviolence

When: Saturday, June 4, 2016, 12:30-6:30 pm Eastern Time

Length: Six hours including a break for lunch

Facilitators: Kazu Haga, East Point Peace Academy; Matt Guynn, On Earth Peace

Cost: Ranges from free to $100 (which covers your participation and completely subsidizes one other participant)

This interactive, online webinar will give participants a brief introduction to the philosophy of Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation, a methodology that was developed out of the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by Bernard Lafayette, Jr., and David C. Jehnsen, who both worked directly with Dr. King.

From prison inmates to law enforcement, activists to educators, from Nepal to Nigeria, tens of thousands of people from all walks of life have used this methodology to create peace in their own lives, in their families, in their communities, and throughout society. Join us as we explore how these teachings could help us move through conflict in our lives and build powerful social movements for justice and the Beloved Community.

We will cover some of the key themes and concepts of Kingian Nonviolence, including examples of how it is being used today, dispelling common myths about nonviolence, exploring different manifestations of violence, and introducing the principles and steps of nonviolence.

This session introduces some of the core concepts from the Kingian Nonviolence framework, but it doesn’t include all content from the more traditional two-day core orientation to Kingian Nonviolence. Opportunities for further study will also be shared, including in-persontrainings and a 6-month online reading club that starts in late June 2016.

This webinar will use web-based technology that will allow it to be an interactive experience. Don’t worry, it’s not six hours of lecture!  Participants will need access to a computer with speakers and a mic, as well as a stable high-speed internet connection.
